Because I am about to head out of town to meet the family, I decided to make today’s post a 5-minute video of me unboxing the vintage 1993 LIFE magazine I ordered so I can recreate a drawing of the cover that was lost many years ago. In The Artist’s Way, Week One, one of the tasks was to journal about a creative injury from our past. This spurred me to remember art I created as a 12-year-old – drawing the cover of LIFE magazine’s feature of Michael Jackson with his animals from his own personal wonderland.
100 Liminal Days is an experimental project of embracing my current transitional season after exiting my business by sharing an honest, real-time account of my self-initiation experience in daily posts. I’m sending shorter weekly recaps only via my newsletter. Visit Day 1/100 to learn more and sign up in the footer of this page to get the weekly recaps delivered to your inbox.
Now I know that many people have canceled MJ, but I decided to review this through the eyes of my 12-year-old self who was not aware of the reasons people may not like Michael Jackson today. This isn’t about MJ, it’s about recovering my own sense of artistic safety.
I was curious to see how I would feel revisiting the magazine I know I pored over for hours as a kid. Here’s the real time video of that experience. (Also, please excuse my Calamine covered face – the poison ivy rash is healing!)

Today is Special
Today is a very special day because I will be baptizing my dad in the lake this afternoon. He has been asking me to do this every since he knew I was ordained, and we’re finally making it happen (despite what looks to be a very overcast and dreary day here in the Hill Country!)
Tomorrow, I kick off Week Two: Recovering a Sense of Identity.
Weekly recaps of 100 Liminal Days are emailed on Tuesdays only to my newsletter subscribers. If you want the summaries, share your email at the bottom of this page to get on the list.
You’ll also instantly receive a free Notion template I use every single day to track my habits and reflect on the day.
If you’re used to operating at a high level but feel mentally overloaded, constantly “on,” or slightly disconnected from your natural clarity—this is for you.
Each week, I share:
Simple qigong practices to regulate your nervous system
Reflections on clarity, focus, and sustainable performance
Practical ways to reduce internal friction and think more clearly
This isn’t about doing more.
It’s about removing what’s in the way.
