In today’s blog post, there’s not much substance, but I didn’t want to miss a day! I’ve had great momentum and want to keep the posts going, even when I don’t have a lot to share. Rest days are okay, too. Here’s a quick update.
100 Liminal Days is an experimental project of embracing my current transitional season after exiting my business by sharing an honest, real-time account of my self-initiation experience in daily posts. I’m using The Artist’s Way as a guiding tool, and sending shorter weekly recaps only via my newsletter. Visit Day 1/100 to learn more and sign up to get the weekly recaps delivered to your inbox.
Today, I have been feeling fatigued and tense as I tend to feel during my monthly cycle, so I’ve taken it easier on myself throughout the day. I attended a graduation ceremony for my niece who recently completed the School of Retail Management program at HEB, had lunch with her and her dad, then came home to get started on writing, qigong, and a cardio workout. But once I got home, I was feeling less than energetic and decided to rearrange the order of my plans.
With Marissa – I’m so proud of her! (And the sun was blinding me)
I started with meditation in a seated position, ended up laying down, and then the next order of business turned out to be a nap! I napped on the couch before getting into my qigong teacher training and my practice for today. This did help me feel a bit better, but the fatigue has been present through my day.
My cardio workout was supposed to be a bike ride, but I opted for a 30-minute walk with my dog instead. I’ve opened my laptop a few times to start today’s post, but my brain has been in a bit of a fog. I decided to get the paint out and do a little work on my deer skull. Now the paint on the antlers is drying, and it’s just after 7 pm. (I’ll save sharing a photo until I’ve made more progress.)
I also started listening to a new audiobook, We Need Your Art: Stop Messing Around and Make Something, by Amie McNee. I’m only a couple of chapters in but I love it already. She’s sharing research related to how art affects our physical health – both making it and enjoying someone else’s art. I shared a bit about her work in Day 17/100 when I was talking about my view that we are in a collective liminal space. I highly recommend that you watch her TedTalk and read her book if you are a blocked creative!
Not all days of this process are full of insights, creativity, or mystery! Sometimes we just need to rest. Today is one of those kinds of days for me, but I didn’t want to skip Day 40! it’s wild to realize that I’ve published 40 blog posts since Labor Day, and I’ve only missed one day outside of the planned vacation in Europe. Rest days are okay, and I’ll look forward to writing more tomorrow.
